Dell and Linux

There has been a lot of buzz in the past few months about Dell offering computers with Linux pre-installed. This ‘buzz’ has come on the heals of the release of Microsoft’s Vista operating system. It seems to me that a lot of people and businesses do not want to experience the expense and hassle of purchasing new hardware to meet the resource requirements and learning curve associated with Vista.

Maybe they just think it’s time for a change. Maybe Dell thinks it is time to offer an alternative to Microsoft operating systems.

Maybe Michael Dell uses Linux himself!

It is true. Micheal S. Dell, chairman of the board and chief operating officer uses Linux on his Dell Precision M90 Laptop at home!

In case the information is removed to appease Microsoft his specs are:

At home: Dell Precision M90

Hardware:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 Processor
4GB DDR2 667Mhz DRAM
17″ WXGA+ Widescreen LCD
160GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
8X DVD +/- RW optical drive
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 512MB

Software:

Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn
VMWare Workstation 6 Beta
OpenOffice.org 2.2
Automatix2
Firefox 2.0.0.3
Evolution Groupware 2.10

Is this ironic or what?
