On December 25, 2007 I wrote about Matthew Szulik’s December 20th announcement of his impending resignation as Red Hat’s CEO. I must have missed the December 12 announcement from Fedora Project Leader Max Spevack about succession planning for the Fedora Project on Fedora Weekly News Issue 113.

The short mention in Issue 113 links to Max’s blog where he announces his intention to step down as Fedora Project Leader.

Quoting Max,

After two years and four releases of Fedora, I would like to be able to do some other things related to Fedora and/or Red Hat while allowing someone else to assume the “Fedora Project Leader” responsibilities.

On December 20, 2007 Matthew Szulik posted this announcement on Red Hat’s website.

From the message,

After almost a decade of leading Red Hat, I have decided to transition my CEO and President role for the personal reasons I have already discussed. It’s my privilege to continue serving this great company in the role of Chairman of the Board. Red Hat will be in the capable hands of a world-class executive team under the leadership of Jim Whitehurst as President and CEO.
